Butcher Block / Cutting Board

Premium Solid Birch Hardwood

Unboxing Your Butcher Block

  1. Carefully remove all packaging materials
  2. Inspect the butcher block for any shipping damage
  3. Allow the wood to acclimate to your home's environment for 24-48 hours before finishing
  4. Keep the block flat during acclimation to prevent warping

Finishing Your Butcher Block

Your butcher block arrives unfinished, giving you complete control over the final look. Here's how to finish it:

For Food Contact Surfaces

Use food-safe finishes only:

  • Food-grade mineral oil
  • Butcher block oil or conditioner
  • Beeswax-based finishes
  • Tung oil (pure, not modified)

For Non-Food Surfaces (Desks, Shelves, etc.)

You can use any finish:

  • Polyurethane (water-based or oil-based)
  • Wood stains for custom colors
  • Lacquer or varnish
  • Paint

How to Apply Finish

  1. Sand lightly with 220-grit sandpaper if needed (surface is pre-sanded)
  2. Clean the surface with a tack cloth to remove dust
  3. Apply finish following the manufacturer's instructions
  4. Allow to dry completely between coats
  5. Apply multiple coats for best protection (2-3 coats recommended)
  6. Lightly sand between coats with fine-grit sandpaper (320-grit)

Natural Wood Characteristics

As a natural wood product, variations in grain, color, and mineral streaks are normal and add to the unique character of your piece. Wood may expand or contract slightly with humidity changes - this is normal behavior for solid wood products.
